Charlie Gosling
Charlie Gosling is a London-based artist whose practice focuses on portraiture, exploring how a subject’s peculiarities can act as windows into their inner world. Born and raised in Hackney, he is currently studying Fine Art at Camberwell College of Arts.
Painting the skew of a tie with the same devotion as the lips of a loved one, Gosling’s work reflects a sustained interest in capturing the quirks of his subjects—creating portraits that are lighthearted in style yet strikingly ambitious in their intent. Inspired by the portraits of service personnel by Chaïm Soutine (1893–1943), his most recent series depicts Uber drivers, prompting viewers to consider the complexities within faces that often go unnoticed.
