Biography

Hawazin Alotaibi is a multidisciplinary artist whose work merges sourced imagery with personal memorabilia. While many of the figures in her compositions are collected from the internet, recurring motifs—such as flowers—emerge from memory, reflecting the intersections of cultural symbolism and personal experience.

Growing up in Saudi Arabia, Alotaibi encountered flowers as representations of womanhood and femininity in cultural and religious texts distributed at school. With the rise of social media, she observed the same imagery appearing in scenes of male self-fashioning, revealing an evolving dialogue around gender representation.

This tension between traditional dogma and contemporary visual culture informs Alotaibi’s artistic exploration of gender and masculinity within the shifting cultural and political landscape of the Gulf.
