Biography

Xavia Duke Richards (b. 1999, Jamaica) is a London-based artist whose practice explores notions of personal and societal freedom through richly textured, impasto painting. Raised in London, he is currently in his final year of study at Camberwell College of Arts.

Richards’ recent series employs thickly layered stirrups of paint, tarry dried pigment, and sand—potent materials that often explode beyond the confines of the canvas. His work engages with themes of resistance, movement, and constraint, using materiality as a means of challenging boundaries both physical and conceptual.
