Corbin Shaw
Based in Bethnal Green, Corbin Shaw is a Sheffield-born artist and Central Saint Martins graduate exploring ideas of British identity, folklore and masculinity. Shaw presented his third solo show at the end of 2023, The People fled When The Sun Went Down, Jealous Gallery, London, where he shredded and pulped stolen copies of the sun newspaper to create paper to display 22 original screen prints. Zooming out to expose a long-running culture of hypocrisy in a series of works that turn the newspaper’s own headlines against it. Notable exhibitions include solo show Nowt as Queer as Folk at Guts Gallery (2022), collaborative display Martin Parr & Corbin Shaw at OOF Gallery (2022), and group shows Designing the Beautiful Game (2023) and The world of Gazza!! (2023), where his work was shown alongside Jeremy Deller, Douglas Gordon and Lydia Blakeley. Brushing with the world of fashion, Shaw has collaborated with Levi’s and Women’s Aid, and produced artwork for magazines such as EXIT, Circle Zero Eight and Perfect Magazine as well as features in The Face, Dazed and The Guardian.
