Fungai Benhura

Fungai Benhura (b. 1990, Harare, Zimbabwe) is a London-based artist and a recent graduate of the Royal Academy Schools (2024). His paintings are composed of multiple layers of diverse and often found materials, seamlessly shifting between abstraction and figuration.

With a focus on intricate textures and ornate detail, Benhura’s works evolve through cycles of being buried, unearthed, destroyed, and reimagined. This process results in paintings that evoke the complexity of palimpsests, architectural growth, and the delicate restoration of archaeological relics.
