Fungai Benhura

Fungai Benhura (b. 1990, Harari, Zimbabwe) is a London-based artist and recent graduate of the Royal Academy Schools (2024). Benhura’s paintings are composed of multiple layers of different, and often found materials. Seamlessly shifting between abstraction and figuration, with a focus on intricate textures and ornate detail, each work evolves through cycles of being buried, unearthed, destroyed and reimagined, resulting in paintings that evoke the complexity of palimpsests, architectural growth, or the delicate restoration of archaeological relics.
